Avoid these Common Traps in Your 20s for a More Fulfilled Life

In our pursuit of happiness and personal growth, we often fall into traps that hinder our progress. We get so caught up in the pursuit of material possessions, the wrong relationships, addiction, and overspending, thinking we deserve it all.  It is crucial to avoid these common traps so that you can have fulfilling life in our defining decade, here are they-

  1. Money Obsessed– The first trap to avoid is the obsession with money. As immigrants, success in a new country is often equated with making a substantial income, running a successful business, or attaining a high-status job with a generous salary. However, focusing solely on money in our 20s can lead to dissatisfaction. There will always be someone else who earns more, has a bigger business, or holds a higher position. Instead, we should prioritize the development of skills and personal growth.

  1. Drugs– Another trap to steer clear of is indulging in drugs during our early 20s. It is natural for one  to explore new experiences during this phase of life, but we must exercise caution. Often, people try drugs out of curiosity, only to find themselves trapped in addiction. Instead of wasting precious time and energy on excessive partying and substance abuse, we should channel our efforts towards more valuable pursuits.

  1. Debt– One trap that has become pervasive in today’s society is debt. It seems impossible to avoid, as everything runs on credit. However, it is important to familiarize ourselves with the distinction between good debt and bad debt. Making well-informed financial decisions in our 20s, such as avoiding unnecessary spending and limiting debt, allows us to focus on personal growth rather than being beholden to creditors.
  1. WORK– Many individuals fall into the trap of sticking with one  job solely for the sake of financial stability. Work becomes a means to earn money, which is then used to enjoy life outside of work. However, our 20s offer a unique opportunity for experimentation and exploration. By pursuing our passions and acquiring new skills, we can find better job prospects that align with what we truly enjoy. It is important to remember that money can be made through these fulfilling experiences. Don’t be afraid to change jobs and try different paths, as author Robert Greene did, changing over 80 jobs before writing his first book
  1. Avoiding our true calling-. Our 20s are filled with distractions like relationships, parties, money, and adventure. It is essential to identify our true passion and pursue it relentlessly. We can uncover our calling by revisiting our childhood desires. Whether it be painting, singing, dancing, photography, or any other pursuit, we can master these skills and transform them into fulfilling careers. Remember, the size or status of a job does not matter as long as it reflects our innermost desires.

It is easy to fall into these traps when they are normalized by the people around us. However, we must realize that we are different, and we should strive to break free from these patterns. By following these tips, we can stop living life on autopilot and start observing ourselves, our path ahead, and our ultimate life goals.
